Byteman 4.0.28.1 is now available from the Byteman downloads page and from the Maven Central repository. It is the latest update release for use on all JDK9+ runtimes up to and including JDK28
Byteman 4.0.28.1 is a maintenance release which enables Byteman to be used with JDK28 releases. It also includes a few small corrections to the behaviour of 1) helper synchronization methods and 2) BMUnit context management code provided courtesy of Byteman power user Paolo Antinori.
Note that with this release Linux script bmjava.sh relies on the java command line option -Xbootclasspath/a to hoist jars -- including the byteman jar itself -- into the JVM bootstrap classpath. In previous releases the agent performed jar hoisting. This change allows a production run to use Byteman in conjunction with a previously generated AOT cache without forcing the AOT runtime to drop cached metadata for non-bootstrap classes. See the Leyden project Java agent guidelines for more details
More details are provided in the Release Notes and the latest Byteman Programmers Guide.
